A Part of History: The NEW Lyon County Museum

SW Minnesota has quite the history, and now you can become more familiar with it than ever before. The Lyon County Museum, now OPEN and ready for visitors, is kicking off its opening with an exhibit on early healthcare in Lyon County.

Now, that's cool, but guess what's also cool.

We got to be a part of it!

The exhibit includes several standing panels featuring information and images about various aspects of Lyon County healthcare -- doctors, buildings, administration, procedures, doctor slips, etc. We had the privilege of printing and installing those panels on StickIt, our peel & stick repositionable fabric. They all went up very nicely, and seem to add a unique dimension to the place. Once the exhibit is due to be updated, the plan is to remove the panels and store them for later use.

It was a blast to work with the Lyon County Historical Society staff throughout the process. We got to learn a TON about Lyon County history as a whole, as well as what made healthcare in this region so unique.

If you haven't visited the museum at it's new location (the old library in Marshall), we strongly recommend it. They've got some impressive stuff in there beyond this exhibit, and it's all worth seeing for yourself! For more information, check out museum's Facebook page here.

Have a great day!

Unique Way of Labeling Your Home

We had a rather unique wall project come up a couple of weeks ago! Instead of a full wall mural, one woman wanted a more unique way to sort of commemorate her family's home: the first letter of their name prominently displayed. The tricky part was the fact that it would be several feet above the ground, but we loved putting it together. Let me take you through the steps.

1. Measured where we wanted it placed, and drew some light level lines on the wall.
Jacob did the honors for this part. I'm a little wary of heights, and I didn't want to break my face in someone else's home.

2. Dusted/cleaned off the wall to make sure we had a perfect, stickable surface.
The letter was printed on StickIt, our peel & stick material, and so we didn't need to do much more than this to prepare the wall. Again, I stayed on the sidelines and cheered him on. It's what I do best.

3. Panel by panel, we slowly smoothed the letter onto the wall.
Due to it's size, we split the letter up into three panels. This made it a lot easier to handle several feed in the air. To apply, we started peeling the top off each panel, stuck it to the wall, and slowly smoothed downward as we pulled off the backing.

4. Admired our work.
Jacob made it safely down the ladder, and we got to see our work completed. It looked great!

We'll post more unique projects as they come up -- there are definitely more coming, particularly with a couple of businesses/nonprofits in town! Stay tuned.

Have a great day!
